WESTERN PROVINCE GRAND MASTERS HOCKEY ASSOCIATION
GREAT START TO RETURN TO PLAY – CHAIRMAN’S REPORT
Dear Fellow Members,
With all the nerves and anticipation as to how post Covid-19 Hockey was going to feature, we had an awesome flawless return to play on 08 October, comprising two league matches between four full complement teams, completed without any serious injury.
Competitive hockey was enjoyed by all and played in good spirit. The only negative was the supply of umpires for opposing matches, which the committee will address before the next league matches.
We will be posting a league table, updated weekly to reflect the results, league position, points scored, goals for and against and a log of goal scorers. To this end, could the team’s administrator confirm each match results, together with their goal scorers for inclusion to the table.
As an association, we have a unique opportunity to present to our members. We are looking for volunteers to participate in a strength and fitness testing protocol as offered by Vekta Innovations. An extract of the test is available on request.
We are looking for four (4) players from each age group (55+, 60+, 65+ and 70+), preferably a spread between forwards, midfielders and defenders. The group’s performance will be assessed by a qualified biokineticist, who will provide feedback to assist in building up strength and fitness. Vekta will also highlight typical injuries and recommend warm up routines to strengthen against future injury.
The cost has been subsidised through the committee by 50% and will be R 150-00 per player for the three sessions.
Once selected, players will need to complete three forms by next Wednesday, so Vekta can load their details onto computer to record the individual test results. The first round of testing is scheduled for next Thursday (15th October).
Rob Birt will send out a yes/ no e-mail to indicate willingness/ availability to participate. Please reply to the e-mail by close of business on Monday.
For the love of Hockey.
