Final update before we start Winter League with six teams – July 2023

Hi all,

By now, you should have been contacted about the games next week when we move to 6 teams. The fixtures and teams are now live on the website, so you can view them. The website for those who are not sure is https://wpgm.co.za.

A final few things:

  • A note about goalies
  • How subs/allocations work
  • Notes about payment

Note about Goalies

We currently anticipate that the goalies may need to double up. Dereck is not available until August, and one of the goalies has limited availability. Gary Frayne will work with the goalies available to allocate a goalie per team for each game. Team admins must work with Gary to sort this out.

Notes about subs

As before, we will substitute like-for-like players should teams be short. With several players having issues on Wednesday, and the average number of players per team now just above 15, we expect that we may need a few subs for some games. If your team has a fixture Wednesday and you would like to play as a sub in the Monday game, please notify your team admin. The same applies to Wednesdays. Around 2 players per team had issues with Wednesdays, so we may need some players playing on Monday to sub for any teams that are short on Wednesday.

Team admins, please work with Gary if they are short.

Notes about payment

If you pay upfront, you will be given the discount of the equivalent of R60 per scheduled game, rather than the R65 per game. Any player that pays up front will not need to pay if they fill in on the day that their team is not scheduled to play. If you are paying per game, then you need to pay R65 per game played regardless.

When paying PLEASE use the reference name/WLeague2, if you want to send a POP it must go to Noreen at nwonnie@gmail.com NOT to Rob Birt.

Just a summary of what is due:

  • If you paid for the full Winter League already, pay R360
  • If you have not paid anything, then it is R65 x the number of games played. Should you then want to pre-pay for the next Winter league games then pay R600

If you want to contribute to the pay-for-a-mate, you can top up your payment and add PFM to the reference or pay separately.

If you need any financial assistance, then email Noreen with your reason and she will respond.

WPGM Winter League 5 team Finale and New 6 team League Announcement

Hello, hockey lovers!

We are wrapping up the 5-team based Winter League tomorrow (Monday 3 July 2023) with our final game. It has been an amazing season with 5 teams showing their skills and passion for the sport.

But don’t worry, we have more hockey action coming your way! Starting from 10 July, we are launching a new league with 6 teams. This was the result of a vote by our members who wanted more opportunities to play and challenge themselves. We are thrilled to welcome the new players and teams to our hockey family.

The new league will have 3 games per week: 2 on Mondays at 18:15 and 19:15 at WPCC, and 1 on Wednesdays at 18:30 at Hartleyvale. This will give you more chances to enjoy the game, improve your skills, and make new friends.

If you are part of the new league, you should have received an email from your admin with your team information. If not, please contact me as soon as possible.

We can’t wait to see you on the field!

Cheers,

Warren

WPGHA Update June 2023

Hello everyone, we are happy to announce that our winter league has been going very well, and we are expanding from 5 to 6 teams. This is a great achievement thanks to the word of mouth by all players. This change will take effect after the current round of fixtures ends on 3 July 2023.

Please note the following points:

  1. We are playing through June and no break is planned.
  2. Our new 6-team winter league will start on 10 July.
  3. We will be reshuffling the teams to make them balanced and diverse.
  4. We will have two fixtures at WPCC on Mondays at the same times as before, and one additional fixture at Hartelyvale on Wednesdays at 18:30
  5. Players from Wednesday can join the teams playing on Monday if they need extra players, and vice versa for Wednesday’s games.

Also, I will email all of you this weekend to ask for your next of kin details. We need to update our records and make sure we have your emergency contacts in case anything happens.

The trials for the team selection of the Over 60 Men’s and Over 60 Ladies going to Auckland will be held in Johannesburg on the 8th and 9th August 2023, only 3 months away.
It is therefore particularly important for these two teams to have both portfolios finalised prior to the trials.

Please give consideration to this opportunity.

GM Winter League 2023 update

All admins have now been sent a list of players for each team. The GM Winter League starts Monday, 17 April 2023. Games will be at 18:15 and 19:15 at WPCC on the B-field. Please note that there is master’s practice after our 19:15 game at 20:15, so we must leave the field promptly.

There are once again 5 teams. Each team will play 8 games. Games are R65 each or R480 for the season. If you pay for the season, then should you fill in for a team when your team has a bye, you do not pay. For those who want, we are starting a pay-for-a-mate fund. To contribute, pay whatever you want over and above the R580 for the season. We will use these funds to help assist those players that have been the hardest hit by the economic situation. Any player that requires assistance from this fund, don’t hesitate to get in touch with Noreen.

The fixtures for the league are available on the WPGM site here: winter-league-fixtures-2023

All teams are also posted on the website here: teams-for-winter-league-2023
