WPGMHA CONSTITUTION, CODE OF CONDUCT AND DISCIPLINARY PROCEDURE.

Following a number of heated “on field” differences of opinion, disciplinary meetings and committee discussions in the later half of the Summer League, it was decided to post the above documents on the WP website (wpgm.co.za).

The Committee wishes to make members aware of the following extracts from the WPGM Code of Conduct.

  • “All Members of the WPGMHA are responsible for their own behaviour and conduct, and as such, accountable”.
  • “The following shall be regarded as conduct, which is improper, unfair and unacceptable:
    • Verbal and physical abuse or hostility towards any other participant, person or member of the public.
    • Disputing/protesting, reacting in a provocative or disapproving manner towards any decision made by an umpire or official inappropriately”.

Not to dampen the Grands Masters and Christmas Spirit, the Committee feels that unacceptable behaviour must be dealt with appropriately. As a reminder, the FIH rules only allow the Captain of the team to query the umpires decision. To assist the umpires, captains will be issued with arm bands at the start of the Summer League and for the IPT. As a build up to IPT and in an effort to make players aware of “on field” discipline, the umpires have been instructed to card all unacceptable behaviour.

WPGMHA ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The WPGMHA Annual General Meeting is scheduled to be held on the 2nd March 2023. The notice, agenda and committee election forms will be sent out in due course.

As always in good faith, your Chairman and Committee wish you,

FELIZ NAVIDAD, FROHLICHE WEIHNACHTEN, PRETTIGE KERSTDAGEN, JOYEUX NOEL, BUON NATALE, FELIZ NATAL AND MERRY CHRISTMAS.

Planned visit by an Over 75 men’s team to Cape Towns

While at the World Cup in Tokyo Barry was approached by Neil Coster, an Australian
Hockey representative, to discuss the possibility of an over 75 National Australian team travelling to Cape Town  and playing hockey against a National South African over 75 team.
Neil and Barry have continued to communicate with each other on various aspects of
their planned visit to South Africa including firming up dates, number of games, venues
etc.
They plan to visit Cape Town during March 2023 and would also like to bring an over
70 National ladies team.(More details to follow soonest) They will probably play in the
Cape Town IPT in March but we are still trying to establish if they will be travelling to the
other Provinces.
Our National Over 75 South African team will be recognised as such and wear South
African colours.
Those eligible players on our data base and who are still playing hockey have been asked
if they would like to be considered for selection. Their initial response has been positive
and once numbers are confirmed by 5th December a selection process will be
implemented.
Although we tried, without success, to get an over 75 team to Tokyo the possibilities of
fielding a team against Australia, here at home, are significantly better.
Costs are going to be reasonable and will include camps in preparation, travel and
accommodation in Cape Town.

Costs to attend the IPT

The cost of hosting the annual IPT is budgeted by the hosting Province. This usually
requires paying for up to 18 different line items, including the hire of the Astros, the use
of local Club facilities, medical staff, umpires, technical tables, the Saturday dinner with
music, photographer etc. The W Province organising committee have budgeted for a
tournament levy of R650 per player which must be paid to your local Provincial Treasurer.
Provinces will be required to lodge a non-refundable per team entry deposit of
R1500.00 no later than 13 January 2023.
Provincial Treasurers are required to pay the total of the player’s levies before 28th
February 2023.
A list of names of players, in age groups and teams, attending the IPT must be attached
to the proof of payment.

Note: If a team withdraws once the levies have been effected, there will be no refund as
the budget is based on a fixed number of teams and players.

Capitation Fees

SAGMHA is funded by the collection of members’ annual fees. (Capitation/Subscription
Fees).  These fees cover the organisation’s annual running costs. The Annual SAGMHA
Player Capitation/Subscription Fees are determined by the fixed and variable expenses
that are incurred by SAGMHA for the sole purpose of the efficient operations of SAGMHA.
These fees are due no later than the 28th February of each Financial Year. The Provinces
are accountable to ensure that these fees are collected and that payment is effected to
the SAGMHA Bank Account not the Provincial account. The annual capitation fee is R330
while players in the +55 age group pay R110.00 capitation fee. For those players over 75
the Capitation fee is waived.
Capitation Payments must be accompanied with a list of all the Ladies and Men’s
players’ names inclusive of their age category.
SAGMHA will forward the annual capitation fees players list to Western Province for
tournament levy reconciliation purposes.
The principle of & no pay/no play & will apply both in terms of Tournament levy and the
Capitation Fee.
